Today I decided it was time to start seeing what the actual city of Barcelona was like as I have been spending most of my time in outlying areas thus far. I have loved all the free walking tours I have done in cities around the world so decided to start my day with one here in Barcelona. The walking tours are a great way to get to know the city and learn of other things you might want to do while you are there. The local guides are always really knowledgeable and full of tips for sites and the best places to eat and drink. I began with the tour and decided I would let this help guide me to what I should do over the next few days in the city.

As usual, the tour guide was great and I learned a ton about Barcelona and its history as well as the ongoing conflict with Catalonia. After the tour and a lot of walking, I decided to start embracing “siesta” and taking a break in the middle of the day to rest and lay down. It was great and I took advantage of siesta the rest of my time in Spain.
I went back out later and saw some of the beautiful city sites at night and strolled through some markets and Christmas festivities in the city. I stopped and got fries from a little place that had many toppings to chose from. This place was recommended by a friend from Israel and did not disappoint.
