Today we got to sleep in and had an easy day before our afternoon flight to Cusco. Brendan worked on school and wasn’t feeling all that well. Yesterday afternoon he started to have some stomach issues and had a rough night. He rested as much as he could and took advantage of his free 50-minute massage on the Chinese traction table that was part of our stay at Orchid Hostel. I set out to explore a few more sites on the tourist map but didn’t really stay out that long because some things were closed due to some sort of fire a few days ago, and something to do with security investigations. Whatever it was, I didn’t really want to be a part of it. There was also some sort of protest going on in a street I was on, and once I saw the mobs of people I quickly turned around and went another way. I stopped and tried an “Inca Cola” as I have been seeing them everywhere – this strange yellow soda. It tasted like a really sweet cream soda. I made my way back to the hostel and got all packed up. Brendan and I had lunch in the Vegan restaurant before heading to the airport and that was really nice.

We took an Uber to the airport and flew to Cusco arriving around 7:30pm. We checked in to this cute little hotel room that even had swan towel creatures on the bed!
For $25 a night, I was pretty impressed. It looked like it had been renovated and everything seemed new and clean. The lady who sat on the plane next to us made us a little nervous about where we were staying because she said it was in a bad part of town, and she did not recommend staying there… When we got there, it seemed fine though. We booked 2 nights and can change after that if we want, but I was happy for a nice clean place that comes with breakfast. 😊 The staff was very welcoming, and they came out to the street and greeted us when the taxi dropped us off. This is a small hotel with less than 10 rooms and I’m sure they were anticipating our arrival. We didn’t do anything that night but rest and try to let ourselves adjust to the altitude as Cusco sits at 11,000 feet!
That is really neat that the staff came to meet you, the towel swans and that huge vege burger you had before leaving Lima! I’m sure they were very glad to have you and Wow, the price was right!
