There’s a lot to say about this 2 week journey I booked randomly when I was in search of a vacation destination! I was craving a glimpse of the “backpacker” life we had 5 years ago and definitely got it.
This country truly has some incredible sights to see! My bar is set pretty high and I will say Ala Kul was the best “high altitude” trekking I have ever done. However, it did not come without a price! Not just the physical part of hiking but the LONG days upon days of being in transport, a huge language barrier, lack of any reliable info, the worst roads (and drivers), extreme weather including freezing cold, soaking wet nights, flat tires, zero common comforts, AND the worst stomach sickness of my life… I can’t only show off the highlights without at least mentioning “vacation” is not really the right word. Home will definitely feel like much more of a vacation than the environment here.
That being said…the vast mountains, sweeping valleys, red canyons, blue waters, cultural experiences, and overall feeling of safety amongst chaos made it WORTH. I’m thankful B is such a good sport with whatever is thrown his way. Most would have wined and sniveled throughout the harsh and uncomfortable conditions.
So lucky to have gotten to explore a new part of our world (1st time to Central Asia), and as always thankful to those in my life who made it possible for me to get away. Blessed to be able to start the journey home tomorrow a little stronger, more resilient, more knowledgeable, more grateful, and hopefully a few pounds lighter
I am excited and ready to get back to work, hug those I love, and have Charmin Ultra Soft 2-ply toilet paper
