We knew our next stop was going to be the town of Lanquin where you can reach the pools of Semuc Champey. We stopped at a travel center in Flores and found that we could take an 8 hour long shuttle ride to Lanquin the next morning for about $14 usd per person. This sounded much more comfortable than doing the journey on a crazy crowded “chicken bus” so we made our reservation for 8am the next day. This meant we were staying one more night in Flores which we were good with. We found a super cheap but somewhat scuzzy hotel just for the night. We enjoyed the afternoon with some Gallos (the Guatemalan beer of choice) and ate some good street food.
We then took a little water taxi across the lake to Jorges rope swing. It was a good swimming spot with rope swings, lounge chairs, innertubes, and hammocks.
We spent a few hours there before making our way back to our VERY hot hotel room with no AC. We had a good laugh when we realized we were spraying ourselves with bug spray BEFORE going to bed…in our hotel room… the hotel did have a nice view for sunset though!
