For our birthdays, my Mom and Chris treated us to 3 nights in a beautiful hotel in San Jose. We rented a car for the week and headed to the hotel. Even though the house-over-the water in Panama was incredible and clean, sleeping in a room with no bugs, cold AC, and a down comforter was AMAZING! Oh, and the HOT shower that you didn’t have to wear your flip flops in was also a true joy. A hot shower in Central America when traveling on a budget is hard to find. We were also able to flush our toilet paper down in this hotel which was a simple pleasure that reminded us of home (lol!).

We checked in and took the car for a spin to find an appropriate birthday dinner for Brendan.

We had a nice meal and cruised the area for a bit. We stopped at a store and bought our first bottles of wine on this trip. We were excited to be able to take them back to the room and feel fancy, drinking them in the beautiful beds. We made our way back to the hotel for a hot shower, clean clothes (Taylor and I treated ourselves and had someone do our laundry) and crawling into the white sheet bed where we could watch TV. Being new to the whole backpacking scene, these simple things felt huge after being on the road for 48 days. Thank you, Mom and Chris for the nice oasis where we could rest and get ready for our next big trek in Patagonia!
Girl I know exactly how these moments feel♥️So fun reading your stories!!!
