We liked the town of Hopkins and the Funky Dodo so much we ended up staying two more nights. The town had such a nice energy and was very relaxed. All the locals were very welcoming and friendly. We spent most of the days hanging out on the beach and taking walks.

We also took out the free bikes the Dodo had and explored the other end of town where the nice resorts were. We stopped at local art shops and ended up having a drink at the very nice Jaguar Hotel where we could use their pool. These two nights we also found local drumming circles after our dinner.

The drummers are part of the Garifuna culture which is a mixed culture of African and Arawak Indians. They would drum and sing and the children would dress in colorful outfits and dance. It was really cool to get to see this part of the culture in Hopkins, Belize. Brendan decided to try a local dish called Hudut that was recommended and not really knowing what to expect we were surprised when it came out and was a whole fish in a bowl with a coconut soup broth. He found it quite hard to eat as every bite had more bones than meat. Our third and final night in Hopkins we went to Driftwood beach bar which was known as the happening place for Thursday night. They are known surprisingly for their pizza which was very good and the drummers. We had a great time and met a new friend Alex from Mexico city who we made plans to catch the bus with the next morning to the town of Placencia.
